SCP-173: “The Unblinking Bar”

Object Class: Euclid
Containment Status: Approved for Civilian Hygiene Use

Description:
SCP-173 appears in the form of a handcrafted Cold Process Soap bar, infused with a crisp pomegranate-cherry scent and precut into approximately 4.8 oz bars. Each bar manifests as a deep charcoal-gray base mottled with subtle red-cherry swirls and flecks of pale stone-white—evoking the texture of unfinished concrete and weathered marble.

Originally recovered from a decommissioned containment chamber, SCP-173’s aroma opens with tart pomegranate and wild cherry, trailing into muted under-notes of dusk and stone. Users report a sudden rush of freshness during use, often accompanied by a fleeting sensation of movement out of the corner of one’s eye. While no direct anomalous harm has been detected, subjects often feel driven to “stay vigilant” in their cleansing routine.

Composition:

  • Olive Oil
  • Soybean Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Canola Oil
  • Sunflower Oil
  • Organic Shea Butter
  • Water
  • Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)
  • Fragrance
  • D&C Color

Handling Procedures:
Each instance of SCP-173 is to be stored in a cool, dry location, sealed in its provided wrap until ready for use. Once unwrapped, it may be integrated into standard personal hygiene practices—though users are advised to momentarily pause between lathering intervals in case of unanticipated movement.

Notes:
Due to the handcrafted origin, color swirl and texture may vary slightly bar-to-bar—making each a unique encounter. For optimal effect, keep the bathroom lighting subdued but not off: shadows add ambiance, but complete darkness is discouraged.

Addendum-173-A:

Test subjects report a sudden instinct to maintain visual contact with the bar at all times during use. Brief blinking-related anxiety has been observed, accompanied by an urge to turn their head quickly to “ensure it hasn’t moved.” No physical relocation events have been confirmed in consumer environments.

Standard bathing protocol recommends:

- Keep the bar in direct line-of-sight while lathering

- Blink one eye at a time if possible (not required, but recommended)

- Avoid leaving the soap unattended in enclosed spaces

Any reports of ceramic scraping sounds after showering should be considered coincidental and non-anomalous.
